Electric Toothbrushes Have Taken Over the Toothbrush Market

An electric toothbrush is a toothbrush that makes quick, synchronized, oscillating brush strokes, either front-to-back or circular oscillation, to brush teeth. An electric motor makes such movements at low sonic speeds or above. The user puts his/her fingers in the bristles and turns them quickly in a circular motion. It is so much faster than a manual brush which utilizes the arm motion of the arm and the wrist movement of the hand. Thus, an electric toothbrush is recommended for kids with weak teeth, for the elderly, for those who have arthritis or who have dentures, and for those who cannot brush for a long time due to some physical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and the like.
There are mainly three types of electric toothbrushes, namely, power brush, pulsating brush, and pressure-sensitive toothbrushes. Power brushes are best suited for those who wish to avoid the extra step of switching between manual and electric modes. They provide a more powerful cleaning action on teeth and thus are most suited for tough, deep-seated stains, such as coffee, tobacco, red wine, and the like. Power brush also provides greater control over the speed of the oscillations. Pulsating toothbrushes, on the other hand, are designed especially to clean and refresh the dental mouth. They are great for those who have halitosis, experience bad breath, and need constant cleaning, or for those with sensitive teeth.
A very useful feature found in electric toothbrushes is the presence of a timer. This timer enables you to extend or shorten the brushing session and thus regulate the temperature of your mouth. Some timers switch off the vibrations and rotations, thus allowing you to brush for two minutes without interrupting your eating or talking. However, if you want to brush for longer periods, the timer is really handy.
Some electric toothbrushes come with additional features such as pre-programmed settings for temperature, intensity, and rotations. While it is possible to change these settings yourself, it can be a tedious process, which can be inconvenient. Some people, however, find this feature convenient enough to be worth the cost of the electric toothbrushes. Most electronic toothbrushes allow users to set a maximum temperature, which can be as low as zero degrees, and as high as 150 degrees. They also have different strength and frequency options, allowing you to choose the level of sensitivity you require.
Most electric toothbrushes are rechargeable battery-powered devices. Although rechargeable batteries can be bought separately, they tend to be expensive and can only be used for one brush longer before they need to be recharged. Rechargeable batteries can also leak chemicals into the air, causing unpleasant odors and even fires. If you’re going to use rechargeable batteries in your electric toothbrush, make sure you don’t run any electrical appliances in the area where your rechargeable batteries are located, such as hair dryers, hair blowers, or any other electrical device that could cause a fire. Always be careful when charging your batteries, and be especially careful if you have young children around or if you live in an apartment building and have children.
While manual toothbrushes can be more convenient for most people, the advantages of using electric ones cannot be beaten. Electric brushes tend to last longer than manual ones and can eliminate up to 90% of all dental plaque. This can be particularly important if you have a job that requires you to go to the dentist quite frequently. If you brush your teeth every day and use electric toothbrushes to remove excess food, bacteria, plaque, and food particles, you’ll find that you’ll have a much easier time keeping your teeth and gums healthy.
